About Muscle Relaxants

The involuntary contraction of certain muscles can create expressions that don’t match our mood.
We can feel and look healthier when we are relaxed and the same is true for our facial muscles.

By using very small amounts of muscle relaxants it is possible to soften or remove fine lines while maintaining a very natural appearance around the brow, forehead and areas around the eyes.

Botulinum toxin has been used medically for over 30 years and has an incredible safety profile with highly predictable results.

Muscle Relaxants Treatments

All treatments are preceded by a consultation with either Dr Baines or Nurse Sue Baines and involve a thorough medical assessment and detailed discussion of treatment options.

Allow up to 1 hour for this initial consultation. There is a charge of £50 which is deductible from treatment costs if suitable to proceed.

Muscle relaxants are administered with very fine injections, with ice gently applied to the skin providing an anaesthetic effect. The procedure typically takes less than 5 minutes.

Follow-up Review

By 7 days, you should notice a reduction in muscle tone. A follow-up video appointment will be scheduled for 2 weeks, at which point the full effects of the muscle relaxant should be apparent. In some cases, additional treatment may be provided during this appointment to ensure the desired results are achieved, at no extra cost.

Brow

Brow lines typically appear as vertical lines between the eyebrows, often formed when frowning—an expression many people make unconsciously while speaking. At first, these lines are only visible when making certain facial expressions. Over time, however, a crease can develop that remains even when the face is at rest. Treatment with muscle relaxants or dermal fillers can help soften and eliminate existing lines, while also preventing the formation of deeper creases in the future. Additionally, this treatment can lift the inner brow, creating a subtly more refreshed and awake appearance.

Eyes

Creases around the eyes, often called laughter lines or crow’s feet, are typically visible when closing the eyes tightly. Initially, these lines only appear with facial expressions but may become more noticeable even when the face is relaxed over time. These lines can be effectively treated with muscle relaxants to soften or eliminate them. With repeated treatments, the development of deeper creases in this area can also be minimized.

Forehead

Forehead lines appear as horizontal creases, becoming noticeable when looking upwards. Initially, they are visible only during active facial expressions but may persist over time, even when the face is at rest. Treatment with muscle relaxants can help soften existing lines and reduce the likelihood of future creases forming in this area.

The cheeks and under-eye areas are often the first to show signs of volume loss, typically becoming noticeable in the early to mid-30s. Looking at photos from 5–10 years ago, you may observe your cheeks appearing less full. Restoring mid-face volume is a natural and effective way to provide lift. Dermal fillers are placed deeply within the tissues, creating subtle projection and enhancing facial contours. Results are immediate, and most treatments require little to no downtime.

Nasolabial

The nasolabial folds, the creases running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth, can be softened significantly with fillers. To visualize this, gently place a finger on your cheekbone beneath the eye and lift the skin upwards and outwards—this movement mimics the effect of treatment, reducing the depth of these lines and creating a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Creases from the edge of the mouth to the chin, sometimes referred to as marionette lines can be easily softened using dermal fillers.

Try for yourself in the mirror: the effect of treatment can to some extent be mimicked by placing a finger outside the skin crease on the cheek above the jaw line, then lifting the skin gently upwards and outwards until the line is removed to the desired amount.
